Currency Traders: A free multiplayer telnet strategy game |
|
|
Update 4Feb2012: A new Currency Traders game has just started. Try it at the link below. It's been down for quite a few months in search of a server. However, it's found a tiny microserver that works just fine. This game is running in a persistent world so that resources you build or acquire will be there when you next log on -- with the possible exception of some other player destroying something. But, you'll be alerted if something like that happens as well...
The first (known) variant of Space Tyrant (ST) is up for testing. Currency Traders is running a small (40,000 sector equivalent) game on port 23 here.
The scenario of the game is completely different from ST. It is set in a post-apocalyptic series of cities where you start out in Los Angeles. From there, you trade in 'hard' currentcies among the many shops and loot the scattered unmanned warehouses. The currencies are Gold Chains, Weapons, Alcohol, and the cash is Silver Coins.
Many other things have changed from ST. To recruit a 'gangster' to your gang costs 100x what buying a fighter costs in ST, for example. There is also a new object: the 'Crib'. Cribs are converted from empty warehouses where you and several teammates can hide under the watchful protection of your gangmembers.
The game also has random and requestable hints and tips. A hint is a general piece of game-play information and a tip is a context-sensitive suggestion about what you can do in your particular situation.
